Big Challenge for Abu Dhabi Triathlon Team (23.06.2010)

Over the past weeks our Abu Dhabi Triathlon Team were busy training and competing at preparation races for the first highlights of the season.

All athletes performed more than well, which gives confidence for the upcoming events. Andi Böcherer will be the first one to present the team at the Ironman European Championship in Frankfurt on July 4th. Two weeks after, on July 18th, Pete Jacobs and Swen Sundberg will compete at the Challenge Roth. They will be supported by Faris Al-Sultan, who will ride his bike in his well-known, powerful manner for the relay of the Bavarian broadcasting team. Furthermore, not to forget, Team Abu Dhabi will compete with its own relay including Christof Wandratsch, Elina Ussher and the winner of our raffle, Philipp Görgen.

Andi Böcherer
Andi reached a 7th place at Ironman Germany in the year 2008. For the 27-year old athlete from Freiburg, Germany, this is not enough: he definitely wants more. His preparation went well, which he has shown at different races over the last weeks, where he could leave some world-class athletes behind him. This makes him confident for Frankfurt. A top result for him would also mean to get one of those badly desired tickets for the World Championships in Hawaii.

Pete Jacobs
After his 8th place in last year’s Ironman World Championship, the 28-year old Australian from Sydney has set himself big goals in 2010. However, for a while, the race season seemed to be in danger after a bike crash in March. But his injuries healed fast and he started to train even more motivated and sooner than expected. Having placed second in 2008 and 2009 at the Challenge Roth there is now just one position left that he wants to reach: the top of the podium. As one of the best Ironman swimmers he will certainly be seen in front on July 18th and we hope he will be able to stay in that position.

Swen Sundberg
The globetrotter from Herzogenaurach, Germany, will be the local hero at the Challenge Roth. His preparation over the last months went exceptionally well although he could not race in the Ironman St. George in Utah as planned because of the flu. Now, with a 3rd place at Challenge France in his books, he intends to set another impressive sign at this home race.
