After Swen trained in the heat of Arizona the change to the cold weather was a big one after he travelled to the US east coast. Additional to the cold the swim was cancelled as heavy rain the day before the race caused some flood. It was too dangerous to do the swim.
So the race began with the bike stage which was done in a time trial mode. Every 30 seconds an athlete went on the race course. Swen was the last one in the pro field. On the technical bike loop he could overtake some of the guys who started in front of him. At the second transition area he was 4th. He kept that position until he crossed the finish line. But the 3rd was just 7 seconds in front of him. Because of that he was a little bit disappointed after the race: “I did not know my exact place and distance to the other ones during the entire competition. So it is pity that I just missed the podium by 7 seconds. If there would have been a regular race I would have had at least the chance to fight for the 3rd.”
Swen will just have a few days of recovery. Already on Thursday he will fly to South Carolina. On the weekend he will compete there at the middle distance of the Revolution3 series.
