On Friday after an extensive training period Swen travelled to Rapperswil. It was another step towards his main goal – the Challenge Roth.
Already in the first discipline, the swim, Swen showed his abilities. He had a fast start and he could get a good group with some of the favourites. Together with those athletes he reached the swim exit on place 18. Jan van Berkel, who did his first Ironman 70.3, was in front of Swen and finished the swim on the second position. For both Team Abu Dhabi Triathlon athletes the first kilometres on the bike went pretty well. Jan did everything to keep his position and Swen tried to win some places. But then it happened. At the turning point Jan crashed and had to drop out of the race. He was quite lucky because besides abrasions he stayed safe. Also Swen did not have a good second loop. He did not crash but his legs felt tired from the training and he was overtaken by some other athletes.
But Swen has a great running shape. He started carefully on the first half but still won some places. So he came closer to the best 10 athletes. On the second half he speeded up and crossed the finish line as 9th.
Swen will try to reach a similar or even better result next week at the Challenge France.
