On the last weekend Ina and Andi travelled to Buschhütten where traditionally the German triathlon season was opened. That is the reason why this race is a first serious form test for many top short course and long course athletes. This year like almost every year the who-is-who of the German and international triathletes were racing. Within that field 2 athletes of Team Abu Dhabi Triathlon wanted to test their athletic form.
The race started with the women’s field with 1.000 meters in the outdoor pool of Buschhütten. Already in the water Ina could take the lead and after 14:02 minutes she could start the flat but windy bike course on the first place. At the beginning she had to fight more the weather conditions than the competitors. The water in the pool as well as the air temperature was pretty cold. So it was not easy to warm up the legs. But Ina could use her strength on the bike and led the women’s race on the running course. But the second and third Kujala and Semmler were just behind her. Ina fought a brave battle and she could stay quite a while in the first position. In the end after 2:00:28 h Daniela Semmler from Darmstadt was just a few seconds faster than Ina. But a second place was a great result for the first race in Germany.
The big surprise of the day was Andi Böcherer. He already showed good performances at the last races. Andi felt already well warming up for the race and he felt that it would be a good day.
Optimistically he stood at the starting line of the 50 meters pool. The swim did not work that well for him but he was in touch with the leading men around the world cup competitor Ivan Vasiliev and all the other short distance specialists who started pretty fast. On the bike Andi attacked from the first meters on the for the race closed Autobahn. And he was successful increasing the gap between him and his chasers. Just the guy, Sebastian Kienle, who won the race in the end, was faster than Andi. He was able to finish the bike part 1,5 minutes ahead of his chasers. That makes him hope to cross the finish line in front of the short distance specialists. Just at the beginning of the run Andi felt tired from the cycling but then he found his rhythm. He lost just a few seconds. On the run with the many turning points he could perfectly control his second place. So he could celebrate his vice title on the finish line for more than one minute before the third man finished.
All in all that was a perfect day for Team Abu Dhabi Triathlon. These results give hope for the upcoming big race like the German Championships over the middle distance in Kulmbach (Ina) and Ironman Germany in Frankfurt (Andi).
