St. George is one of the toughest races in the Ironman circuit. Race day demonstrated that impressively. 16 degrees Celsius water temperature were the best of the entire day. Paul enjoyed that and he came out of the water in the leading position. On the bike he could stay there with some athletes around him. He won the bike prime at km 120. But after that he bonked and had a hard time. Paul still started the run on the 4th place with less than 4 min behind the leader but the marathon was tough. He fought like lion and under these conditions he was happy to finish 6th. In the meantime the Swiss Hecht and the German Twelsik ran for the title. The Swiss had more energy on that day and won in front of Twesik and the US American Tollakson. For Paul Ironman St. George was an important step towards the Ironman World Championship on Hawaii.
