Long distance swimming in Oberschleissheim (26.06.2010)

Christof Wandratsch and Faris Al-Sultan became 1st and 2nd at the long distance swimming in Oberschleissheim near Munich over 4 kilometres.

Usually the boat race course in Oberschleissheim is the home of rowers. But today another group of water sport athletes fought each other, the swimmers. 1 or 4 kilometres had to be survived in the well-arranged pool. Wetsuits were allowed which is unusually for long distance swim competitions.

Chrsitof Wandratsch and Faris Al-Sultan used the event for their triathlon preparation. For Christof it was the last test before Ironman Austria next weekend and for Faris it was part of his last training block for the race of the same series in Regensburg on August 1st.

Just after the cannon went of both of them were in the lead. Faris tried to use the water shadow of Christof but after 1 km he could not keep Christof’s pace who is actually a specialist of that kind of races. Both of them had to finish by themselves and the fought about every second. After 48:42 min Christof came out of the water followed by Faris with the time of 51:01.
