From March till September Paul’s home city was Boulder, Colorado. He enjoyed the perfect training conditions in Colorado’s mountains and it was a good place to do many of the US races from. Not less than 9 Ironman 70.3 competitions were on his schedule and the resume is a great one. He could win in Racine and he got 4 times second – inclusive the race in Syracuse. At some races he was just beaten by seconds.
Syracuse was just a week after the world championships in Las Vegas where Paul finished 12th. His success factor is the swim where he usually leads the field or he is at least in the leading pack. That was the same in the US state New York. Together with his countryman Stephen Hackett he was the first one on the tough bike course. Paul could stay in front until the first kilometres of the run. Then the Belgian Bart Aernouts who is more known as a Duathlete came from behind. But Paul had a good run and finished second behind the Belgian and the Australian Josh Rix.
Now Paul’s US season has ended. He earned some weeks off. But the plans for the next races are already in his mind.
