In particular the comeback of Rachel Joyce is the story of the weekend. After she had hurt her foot at the Abu Dhabi International Triathlon in March she could not do a race so far. This long time of suffering will end on Sunday. Rachel will compete at Ironman 70.3 Antwerp/Belgium. Despite of her injury she will be amongst the favourites. The most important thing for Rachel is to do races again. So Antwerp will be her first test on the way to Kona - the Ironman World Championship in October.
After his bad luck in Roth Swen Sundberg decided to try it again at Ironman Switzerland on Sunday. He is in shape and the goal is clearly set: he wants to finish under the best 5 and he is after a slot for Hawaii. But there will be again a strong field of athletes. Especially the Swiss triathletes have to be observed at their home race.
Our youngest member of Abu Dhabi Triathlon Team, the Dutchman Jan van Berkel, will be after points for the ITU World Championship and for the Olympic qualification in London. After his great performance in Hamburg last week he hopes for a top 20 result on Sunday in a field of the world’s best short course athletes.
