It works again for Faris Al-Sultan! (06.06.2010)

Faris Al-Sultan won the Olympic triathlon in Kirchbichl, Tyrol, in front of Pavel Simco from Slovakia.

After just 2,5 weeks of training in the running shoes Faris started to race again. The tiny village Kirchbichl, close to the German border, is a special place for him. The race there was one of his first triathlons ever which was more than 10 years ago. And it is probably the party after the race that makes it so remarkable for him.

Directly after a training camp in Meran Faris stood quite tired at the starting line. And he did not really know how the running would work. His toughest counterpart should have been Pavel Simco who beat him 2007 in Schliesee. There Faris was really in shape. So he started with the clear Al-Sultan tactics. Push as hard as you can. But he could not distance Simco neither on the 4,5 loops in water nor on the bike. That was actually not Faris idea to get a decision on the running course. But it came in a different way than expected. From loop to loop, all in all there were 4 of them, Faris increased the gap between him an Simco. In the end Faris won with the 2nd fastest running split, which was quite surprisingly because of his lacking running training in the last weeks. That brings confidents for the way to Ironman Regensburg. That is the main goal this year beside the world championship on Hawaii.
