Great season ending for Jan van Berkel (23.10.2010)

Jan could celebrate a 3rd place at the ITU Asian Cup race in Hong Kong which was his last race of this year.

First it did not look like that the race in Hong Kong could even be started as a typhoon came pretty close to that area. But the day before the race the all-clear was given and the race was safe in the end.

The way how the race went for Jan was similar to other race in this season. At least what the first 2 disciplines concerned. He just missed the first swim group. On his best stage, the bike part, he tried to close the gap to the leaders. But he did not get any support from the other athletes in his group. So he was still 45 seconds behind at the beginning of the run. Despite the hard work he did before he could run the fastest run split of the day and finished 3^rd.

Visibly happy he started back home just after the race: “That was a successful season ending for me. 2010 was a tough year and in the upcoming weeks I have to refuel energy for the next season. I know that there will be a lot of work to do but after a race like this I would like to start tomorrow.”
