It is now almost 6 weeks since I injured my foot during the Abu Dhabi International Triathlon and I am pleased to say my tendons seem to be healing well. In the end I spent an extra week in Abu Dhabi as I needed clearance from the airline’s doctor to be able to fly, but it wasn’t so bad hanging out by the hotel pool. Back in London I saw a specialist foot and ankle surgeon who checked movement in my tendons with an ultrasound. The tendons were joined fine but I was struggling to move my toes as the tendons got stuck in the scar tissue. My stitches have been out for a few weeks now, and I was soon able to walk around in my new air cast boot, which made life easier but did mean I had no excuse for asking people to get me a cup of tea…. I can now get it myself!
I’m now out of the air cast boot and doing lots of physio and rehab work. I still wear the boot in the pool which makes my swimming interesting! Rehab is going well and hopefully I’ll be able to start building up to running in a couple of weeks and thinking about racing before long. It feels great to be back into training – I’ve learnt that I wouldn’t make a very good couch potato!
