Adventure Travels Al-Sultan the 241st (08.08.2011)

The Ironman Euopean Championships are history. Now Faris concentrates on the World Championships in Hawaii. He also prefers the mountains instead of the flat for his training. Here is his report.

After I slept a lot in the last 3 weeks – with a tiny exception on July 24th – I hope to be ready after a week of acclimatisation here in St. Moritz to push hard.

Just a few words concerning Frankfurt – you always learn from each single long distance race. Even after you have raced for 15 years. The brain does not replace your body. But with your head you can use everything which is in your muscles. From the intellectual point of view it was not that smart to race in Frankfurt with speedos and a tiny top. I want to congratulate all finishers and I have to say thank you to my support crew. Under those conditions all are tested according their Ironman quality.

The weather is still not fine also here in the Engadin. But also in Germany summer makes a break. Till now I could follow my training program which was not that hard as it had less mileage and intensity. Because of the monstrous expensive Swiss franc we decided to boycott the Swiss gastronomy inclusive the doner place close at the running track. A doner costs 9 franc which is approximately 8 Euro. That is not easy for me. But as Ina decided to cook and do the dishes it makes the things easier.

The only problem in St. Moritz is that there are no triathletes here at the moment. Except a few super fast African runners and 80 kids from Belgium who do track and field athletics nobody is here to train with.

To be continued …
