Austria is the race of the early birds. Already at 7 am the pros jumped into the water. It took more than an hour until the last wave start was done and the last one of the 2000 athletes was on the course.
At that time Kristin and Swen were already on the bike loop. The tiny woman from Fürth, Germany, had a tough time in the water. She experienced a shortage of breath and opened quite a gap to the leading women. On the bike it went better for her. But the run was the best. With the fastest run split of the day she crossed the finish line on the 7th place. It was not exactly that race she would have expected but Kristin collected still some points for the Hawaii qualification. On the other side Karin Thürig was more than happy. The Swiss time trial specialist rode faster than everyone else in the women’s field and could bring her lead to the finish line.
Swen had a solid race. After the swim he was in the first group. Just the Czech Philip Ospaly and the local hero Michael Weiss were in front. They had a tough match which Ospaly won. Behind them it was a battle between almost 10 athletes. In the middle of them Swen gave everything. With a good run performance he reached the 8th place.
